Course Description

We will be covering: 

  • The My Courses page 
  • The basic tools and settings of a Moodle course 
  • Some of the most commonly utilized types of course content 

You will be able to: 

  • Navigate and manage your Moodle course as well as the My Courses page 
  • Add and organize content in your course 
  • Control the visibility of your course as well as course content 

Course Outline:

  • Course creation and My Courses Page 
    • Log into myLSU or simply moodle.lsu.edu (Summer 2020 old, Fall new) 
    • Each term - New blank teaching courses, 1 per course number 
      • Creation / Enrollment date 
      • Hidden courses – expand / Favorite (star) 
  • Elements of a Moodle Course 
    • Contents sidebar –   
      • Weekly vs topic  
      • Course Navigation  
      • Rename / Hide / Delete sections 
    • Administration menu  
      • Edit Settings - Visibility, Course Format, Hidden Sections behavior 
      • Users – manual enrollment for TA’s, guest instructors 
      • Groups – Restrict Access, Moodle Mail  
  • Activities & Resources 
    • Activities (interactive) 
      • Assignments  
      • Forums 
        • Type of Forums - tool tip for explanation 
        • Announcement Forum – special behavior 
      • Quiz – online testing considerations and suggestions  
        • Using the Question bank - categories, randomize questions 
        • Time Limit 
        • Design question like open book question 
        • Use ProctorU 
    • Resources (non-interactive, generally read only)   
      • URL - can also be utilizes for shared files

  • Managing Content - moving / hiding sections and course content items 
  • Course Tools 
    • Gradebook (student don’t have Admin gear) 
    • Moodle Mail – makes addressing email easier (role, group) 

Note:  This course will be facilitated via Zoom (join URL below).  It will take approximately 45 minutes and covers the most introductory topics needed to begin using Moodle to facilitate teaching and learning online. Additional courses cover backing up and restoring courses as well as the Moodle Gradebook in greater detail.  Consider attending this series in the following order:
