Course Description

Format: Fully online asynchronous course in LSU Online Moodle

Developed and facilitated by LSU Online & Continuing Education, this course is designed for anyone who is new to teaching online or is interested in learning more about facilitating an online course. Participants will explore best practices in making connections with students, creating a community of learning, and delivering an engaging experience for their students. Many of the strategies covered in this course are also applicable to blended courses.

Through this instructor-led four-week asynchronous online course, you will have the opportunity to learn from your peers and explore aspects of online learning and teaching. You can anticipate spending 15-20 hours to complete the course.

Topics covered in this course include

  • Regulatory requirements for online courses
  • Communicating with students
  • Instructor presence
  • Active learning strategies

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Craft a course policy section of your syllabus that includes expectations for grading timeliness, office hours, active participation, and meets federal guidelines for Regulatory and Substantive Interactions (RSI)
  2. Plan active learning strategies for your course to engage students with you, the content, and each other
  3. Identify Moodle and campus support services and resources for faculty and students access as needed.

Note: This course primarily focuses on the facilitation of an online course and is not a Moodle “how-to” course or on designing or developing an online course. For more information on these topics, visit the LSU Online Faculty Resources & Support website.

Registration for this course will close two days prior to the start date. Information regarding access to the Moodle course and additional course information will be shared with participants via email prior to the start of the course.

This course will run contingent on the enrollment of five or more registrants. If a quorum of five hasn’t been established two days prior to the start of the course, we will cancel the course and notify registrants.

Important: For faculty/staff outside of LSU A&M: To register, please use your @lsu.edu credentials (i.e., the credentials you use when you log into myLSU, not your campus email address)
